| Special Operations Ice Rescue Drill |

Special Operations Battalion' Ice Rescue Drill that were done on all 4 Platoons during the week of January 14-17, 2008. Since we did not have actual ice, though as you can see we had snow, an ice simualation prop made out of plywood and flotation devices was used. The drills were done in the Tidal Basin between the Jefferson Memorial and the Inlet Bridge from the Potomac River. |
Troubled Waters Metro Drill |

D.C. Fire and EMS joined forces with several other area departments to test their capabilities during a Metrorail disaster drill over the waters of the Potomac River.
The scenario involved an occupied yellow line train that erupts in fire while on the bridge spanning the river. Firefighters and other emergency personnel had to overcome challenges that included access to the scene, water supply issues, and evacuation of some physically challenged passengers.
Units from Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties In Maryland, as well as Arlington, Alexandria and Fairfax in Virginia, participated in the exercise, which took place on the morning of Saturday, October 13th. |
High Angle Rescue Drill at 5th and K St. NW |

Members of Rescue Squads 1 and 2, #2 platoon, along with the special operations battalion chief, recent conducted an above angle rescue drill at a building under contruction.
The training scenario involved an injury on the top level of the hi-rise structure at 5th and K Sts. N.W. Compounding the theoretical rescue was a movable scaffolding system along the exterior of the building. Challenges included working around the scaffolding and finding tie off points for the lowering system.

| Units Assist MPD with Extrication Training at RFK |

Rescue 3 #3 was asked by MPD to help the traffic division with a accident reconstruction.They set up a mock accident at RFK and they needed the Squad for Extrication. An EMS unit from special events there to assist as well.
